The team at MSB have coached 100s of international school leaders. We know first hand how powerful a coaching conversation can be. And we too have a deep desire to make coaching available to more people. So we have set out to do something about it.
With your help, we are building an international Peer Coaching Programme.
The Peer Coaching Programme will train you to hold powerful coaching conversations with your colleagues.
Working in groups of three, we will teach you how to build a highly effective and supportive coaching relationship with two other members of the international school community.
You will establish a strong ‘triad’. A group of three professionals that can ask the right questions, hold a space for each other and be by your side as you go through your professional career.
First-class training in how to hold coaching conversations
A support triad to apply your learning and to use as a support network
A place to talk about what you need to talk about, without judgement or consequence
Access to the MSB Network; a global community of educators
Let’s face it, teaching and school leadership is wonderful, but it can also be tough!
We’ve been there. It’s a wonderful job but it is not without its challenges.
And sometimes there just isn’t anyone you feel you can talk to. It can be isolating at times and too often we don’t have a chance to say the thing we need to.
And if the last year has taught us anything, it’s that we need to be talking to each other more than ever before.
Which is why we have decided to launch this Peer Coaching Programme.
We’re on a mission to build an international network of professionals who can access the support that they need on their terms in a safe and effective way.
Members of the programme will get.
6 Months of Peer Coach Training
Membership of a Powerful Triad Group
Ongoing Online Refreshers & Updates
We’re opening up just 60 spaces on our initial intake, and we will start on 19th April 2021.
The programme runs for 6 months (with a summer break) and finishes on 8th October.
It is based on 8 cycles that are 3 weeks in length each.
Participation is by application only as we need to be sure that we have the right people on the programme for it to be successful.
We encourage you to apply asap to secure your place.
“MSB and the MSB Network is a lot more than coaching, leadership and effectiveness, although it does those things extremely well, it also provides a community and connection for peer learning, sharing and growth. I love their philosophy and approach to education, well-being and humanity to create happier people, workplaces and the world!”
–d’Arcy Lunn, Director of Group Sustainability, Dulwich College International
Whilst we will give you the skills you need to coach your peers, the most important thing is that the three of you will be able to work together to support your personal and professional growth long after the programme finishes.
A powerful coaching triad to support you for the long term
New Skills in Coaching Conversations
Membership of an online network that will refresh your thinking
We absolutely believe that this is one of the most effective ways of growing personally and professionally and ensuring you have sustainable and meaningful support as you move through your career.
Gill’s passion during her own school years was art. She loved art and happened to be very good at it too. She even studied Art History at university, then went on to run her own art gallery in Bath.
Even though she loved her art, she felt something was missing. She hadn’t yet found her calling, her purpose, until a chance conversation with an old friend led her to transition across to teaching. After her year at Teacher Training, her first teaching job came in 1993 as a Humanities teacher in Swindon.
Really finding her passion for teaching, she soon progressed to become a Department Head, then Deputy Head of a school in Nailsea Bristol.
This quickly led to her first Headship at City Academy in Bristol, where she stayed for 4 years.
Then after setting up her own company as a consultant, she took on her second leadership role as Executive Principal of Lincolnshire Teaching and Learning Centre (Pupil referral unit).
Her third leadership role was as Head Teacher of Sexy’s School in Bruton before she moved away from Headship to leading and supporting other school leaders facing challenges she understood all too well.
Gill is passionate about seeing people progress and achieve beyond what they even thought possible.
She truly loves to see people succeed.
Matt got his first honours degree from Cambridge University, and continued to do his Masters there.
He then worked for Accenture for a year, but couldn’t get on with the corporate life and knew something had to change. This prompted a huge A-HA moment, resulting in transitioning to teaching.
In his first school he went from being a Geography teacher to being on the Senior Leadership Team within 4 years, and then subsequently moved to become vice principal in City Academy Bristol (where Gill was Principal).
He then transitioned to be deputy head in the British School of Oman.
Matt then joined Gill and created MSB in 2016. He was with her in Sexy’s in Bruton as part of the school improvement drive.
Matt has always been a high achiever. He’s always been one to push the boundaries not just for himself, but also for others. He’s a great believer in living life to the full.
“Warm, kind and inspiring, Matt and Gill guide you through the foundations of great quality, collaborative coaching with an ethos of high challenge and high support. Brilliant people”
–Oliver Mitchell, Teacher
By joining The Peer Coaching Programme, you’re also a member of the Making Stuff Better Network, our overarching community. You’ll be able to keep up with your Peer Coaching activity both here, but also in your main Making Stuff Better Activity Feed (think about it as our own Facebook newsfeed with Course and other activity all in one place).
As a participant you will receive:
We have priced the programme to make it as accessible as possible. The costs is $799 for the full 6 month programme. This includes everything outlined above.
Upon successful application you will be forwarded to the course where you can pay with card.
Put simply, you need to allocate 2-3 hours every 3 weeks for 6 months. You need to watch the training session and then meet as a triad to apply your learning afterwards (and before the next training session) during each 3 month cycle.
The other core part of the programme is practicing what you are learning in the training in your triad. Therefore, you should arrange an hour of time together after each training (and before the next one) to apply the skills. The training every 3 weeks will explain everything you need to do this.
No, you definitely don’t need to. As always, the more the merrier, but if you cannot all view it at the same time, that is fine.
We encourage you to join with 2 other members of the international school community who you know. But this is not essential. If you would like us to put you into a triad you can let us know on the application form.
