Executive Leadership Coach and Facilitator

Job Summary

Making Stuff Better is looking to recruit a high quality, experienced and qualified executive leadership coach and facilitator with a background in senior leadership in schools, who is driven by their desire to enable people and organisations to thrive and play big.

Making Stuff Better is a leadership coaching company working predominantly in the international school market. Founded in 2016 we support 100s of leaders around the globe through 1:1 coaching and in school training.

The expansion of the company has been fast and we are now looking for an experienced coach to join our team to contribute to its future growth and development. The company directors are Gill Kelly and Matt Hall; both former school leaders with a mission to help leaders thrive in their roles whilst at the same time finding balance in their lives.

The company is based on the values of integrity, honesty and creativity. We are always honest and open in our approach; the company is built on relationships and trust; never settling for the ordinary or mundane in its work.

Job location

The successful candidate needs to be located in the UK and home-based. Regular (monthly) meetings with Matt and Gill will be held in a central location between West Yorkshire and the Highlands of Scotland. Meetings to date have been held in Edinburgh and involved overnight stays in company arranged accommodation.

When worldwide travel is allowed, it is hoped that training and coaching within schools on an international basis will resume. The successful candidate needs to be comfortable with being away from home as well as international travel.

Working hours/environment

This is a full time position, with an expectation to build up your coaching client base to 32 clients at any given time (on average). Coaching is expected to take up four days of your working week, with the other day spent on attending meetings, delivering online training and collaborating on future projects with Matt and Gill.

The way in which you manage your client caseload will be up to you; but typically, our clients receive two one hour coaching sessions a month over a six or twelve month period.  You can also manage your hours flexibly to allow for international travel, online training delivery as well as attending training yourself.

  • Have a clear understanding of coaching frameworks and theories of positive psychology with the ability to apply them in practice
  • Work safely as a reflective practitioner to develop greater self-awareness when working with clients.
  • Delivering and facilitating training to key MSB clients as required, both online and in person
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of training programmes
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the company as required.

Day-to-day activities of the position

  • Running online coaching sessions up to 4 a day
  • Conducting chemistry calls with prospective clients
  • Regular catch ups with either Matt or Gill via Zoom or whatsapp . Zoom meetings will be weekly but may be more depending on the workflow.
  • Delivery of online training to international schools which may have an early start- such as 6.45 am UK time.
  • Communicating with clients; arranging sessions, responding to emails; general administration.
  • Promoting further business opportunities to clients as appropriate
  • Attend monthly in person meetings with Matt and Gill.

How the position fits into the organisation

This role will be the first permanent employee for the company outside of Matt and Gill, so is very special. The successful candidate will be joining a small firm that has grown fast and has big ambitions for future growth. The role is pivotal in helping MSB to achieve its goals.

Paramount to the company is the quality of the client experience;  Matt and Gill have built the company on the values of integrity, honesty and creativity and pride themselves on genuinely transforming lives for the better. We want the same drive and commitment in our first employee.
